One thing that I have in common with a lot of my close friends is they love to travel. Travel opens the world up for new possibilities. It is part of the adventurous spirit that we all have. I have traveled to Mexico several times by myself and with friends and family. I have jumped on a plane for a two day trip to Japan to meet potential business partners. My wife and I have taken our kids to New York City for a winter trip, Cancun for a party trip, England and Scotland for an adventure trip, and Hawaii for a family trip. Despite the cost and despite what other things I have had in my life, my travels are what have given me the most juice and excitement.

I just received a phone call yesterday from a friend of mine who was tired of the working rat race. He traded in his jeep for a van and got himself a Western Hemisphere map. Currently he is in Ensenada, surfing the waves and meeting new friends. His plan is to travel from Mexico, through Central and South America and make a final stop in Argentina or Brazil. He has been on this trip for more than a month and he is only made it to Ensenada. He has a long way to go on his journey, but he doesn’t have any hurry. He has volunteered for a week at an orphanage and he is going to take some Spanish classes these coming weeks. It is an adventure that most people dream about but never do.

Another friend of mine, was laid off from his job a few months ago, and could not find another job. Instead of feeling sorry for himself and moping around the house, he took a three month trip to Eastern Europe. He visited historic sites, and made it as far as Turkey. He had taken similar trips to Australia, New Zealand, and Western Europe in the past. Now he is back in Seattle, working again and probably planning his next big trip.

Does hard, honest work pay off in the world of professional sport? Does cycling reward its faithful servants? I think we all wish the answer to these questions was a resounding “YES!”, we all want so bad to believe in the rewards of hard, honest efforts. The real picture, however, is more complex. Much more complex.

We yearn for fairness in sport, much like we do in life. Spectators discuss whether or not the victory was deserved. Did the best man win? We want the hard working, “under-dog” to win.

But we know better. There are no “deserved” victories or fairness in sports. We have lots of rules and regulations and even a few athletes that try and cheat. We even have this concept of fair play, but there are no governing body that evaluates hard work and reward efforts based on this. Long, faithful service does not make a bit of a difference. And quite honestly, it shouldn’t. This is professional sports. Everyone is in it for themselves and it’s up to you to create your own future.

And because of this “lawlessness”, because there is no system that rewards hard work, we all rejoice when that hard, honest and faithful athlete once in a great while wins. We say to ourselves “he really deserved to win”.

Use environmentally friendly products, such as organic products, helps a lot to the environment, especially in these times when the planet gets more and more pollution from global warming. These organic products are designed to help save our planet. If you are still throwing things which are concerned only once and they are also toxic to the environment, then one day you’ll see that it has generated a lot of toxic waste. Combine this with all the other piles of trash all over the world and you’ll be amazed that you have created a poison to the planet. The more you use hair sprays, colognes, sprays, pesticides and even then it contributes more to air pollution.

Why are we drawn to sports? It is because we appreciate and take pleasure in witnessing the human spirit in motion. Athletes competing and achieving despite difficulties inspires us all. It is a reality TV show in its best. Sometimes, we can’t help asking what sort of “all in one sports nutrition” they are taking.

It’s heartwarming to us those ordinary mortals, after years of training and hard work had triumphed against all odds. We know that these athletes had worked hard to develop their physical skills. We can’t help but be one in their triumphs and empathize in their defeats.

But surely this privilege is only for the professional athletes who have all the time in the world to engage in sports and sustain this with appropriate nutrition? Not necessarily true.

For people juggling a delicate balance between their busy life and their need for physical health, all in one sports nutrition maybe a heaven sent.

Everyone has heard of the Tour de France, one of the world’s premier extreme road races (approximately 2,000 miles over the course of 21 days). Although the riders are only in the saddle for 4-6 hours per day, the speeds they carry are incomprehensible to most cyclists – nearly 30 mph on flats (consistently); nearly 15 mph on very steep climbs; sometimes 60+ mph on Alpine descents; and an unbelievable 40-45 mph in the sprints! There are other races, though – in particular, the Race Across America, which is arguably the most difficult road race in the world. Racers ride from the west coast to the east coast of the USA, following a prescribed, closely monitored route.

Exercises that target your cardiovascular system are great for weight loss because they get your heart to beat at the target heart rate zone where your body can burn fat.

1. Running – Running has many fitness benefits. It gets your heart rate up more quickly than other forms of exercise, which can help you burn more calories. Since it’s a high-impact exercise, running also helps build strong bones and ligaments. Other than a good pair of shoes, you don’t need any fancy equipment either. The hardest thing about running is the fact that it takes time to build up the strength and stamina to keep going. Many people begin by alternating walking and running.

2. Biking – Riding a bike also burns lots of calories and increases endurance, whether outdoors or on a cycling machine. You can continue to challenge yourself by increasing speed and resistance. It is also an activity that can be easily incorporated into your daily life – ride your bike to work or to run errands. Unlike running, biking is low impact on your joints.

3. Cross-Country Skiing – This is one of the best ways to give your whole body a cardio workout. As you move your arms and legs on skis or an indoor arc trainer, you’ll burn lots of calories. Of course, the movement can take a little while to master, and you’ll need to be somewhere that gets enough snow in the winter.
